PCC volleyball competes in the Barton Cougar Classic

The Pratt Community College volleyball team traveled to Great Bend, KS to take part in the Barton Cougar Classic. The Beavers competed in four games in two days from Sept. 1-2.

Pratt volleyball started the weekend with #6 Western Nebraska. The Blue and White fell in straight sets to Western Nebraska 16-25, 13-25, 15-25.

Following the Western Nebraska match was a rematch against Trinidad State. After falling to Trinidad State last weekend, the Beavers got revenge for the loss with a five set win (25-19; 21-25; 22-25; 25-20; 22-20). Allison Rose led the way with a double-double; 16 Kills, 19 digs, two assist blocks and an ace. Both Stephanie Reichenberger and Brooke Menhusen contributed 13 kills apiece while Reichenberger had three assist blocks and Menhusen had one assist block. Lexi Schamberger and Jordan Jones each provided 11 kills. Jones had two solo and two assist blocks. Taylor Groen-Younger ran her offense and brought in 59 assists, 13 digs and two aces. The back court defense was anchored by Naomi Warren at libero with 17 digs. Paige Brown covered the court with 13 digs. Gabrielle Ediger pulled in eight. 

Day two saw the Beavers face McCook and Lamar. The Blue and White took McCook to four sets, but fell 1-3 in sets (25-19; 21-25; 18-25; 22-25). Rose led PCC defensively and recorded another double-double; 15 digs, 16 kills; with an ace and an assist block. Ediger played libero and pulled up 13 digs. Both Warren and Brown contributed eight digs each. The offense saw a balance between Schamberger and Rose, each with 10 kills apiece. Reichenberger put down four kills and three assist blocks. Menhusen and Jones had eight kills each. Menhusen had three assist blocks and an ace. Jones had a solo block. Groen-Younger had 35 assists, eight digs and two aces. 

The Blue and White closed out the Barton Cougar Classic with Lamar. Pratt battled for all three sets, but could not secure the win falling to Lamar 0-3 (22-25; 21-25; 23-25). Schamberger led PCC with 13 kills in 29 attempts with no hitting errors. She hit a .448 for the match. Reichenberger put away nine kills and a solo block. Rose had seven digs, six kills and an ace. Menhusen had five kills. Jones had two kills, a solo block and an ace. The defense was led by Paige Brown with 13 digs. Warren, Ediger, and Groen-Younger had eight, six and six digs respectively.

For the tournament itself, Jordan Jones represented the Beavers with an All-Tournament selection.

"We are looking forward to the upcoming home conference match up with Barton County Community College," said head coach Jenny Mueller. "They have a solid returning group and a nice set of freshmen coming in. They are coached well, and we look forward to the competition. It will be exciting to see the lessons we learned over the weekend come into play on Wednesday (Sept. 6)."        

PCC volleyball returns to the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena to continue conference play against Barton County Community College on Sept. 6. First serve is at 6:30 p.m.
