The Pratt Community College volleyball team traveled to Coffeyville, Kansas to compete in the Coffeyville Community College Tournament. The two day, four match tournament saw the Beavers face tough opponents through the whole tournament. On the first day, the Blue and White faced Fort Scott, who is ranked #17 in NJCAA DII, followed by #6 Coffeyville. Saturday's competition was against Allen County and MCC-Longview.
The Beavers went 1-3 on the weekend against these opponents taking their lone win against Allen County; 25-17, 25-22, 25-17. Passing was a bit of a challenge this weekend and the defense struggled to block against the faster offenses Pratt saw. Brooke Menjusen was a consistent competitor over the weekend. Playing middle, she averaged at least two kills per set. Menhusen scored eight kills against Fort Scott, six kills while hitting .385 versus Coffeyville. She followed her first day numbers with nine kills and a hitting percentage of .643 against Allen County. Menhusen finished the tournament with six kills and a .470 versus Longview. Lexi Schamberger had standout matches against Fort Scott and Allen County. Against Fort Scott she had nine kills, hit a .412 and added a solo block. Schamberger put away 13 kills and hit a .619 versus Allen and brought up eight digs. Allison Rose played well against Longview with eight kills and hit a .333. She also had seven kills against Coffeyville.
Pratt had their most solid defensive game against Fort Scott. Taylor Groen-Younger pulled up 11 digs. Paige Brown came through with nine digs. Gabrielle Ediger followed with seven digs. The Beavers also averaged two blocks per set. Solo blocks came from Schamberger, Menhusen and Rose. Stephanie Reichenberger, Menhusen, Rose, Groen-Younger and Brooke Theis also came through with assist blocks.
Naomi Warren served a pair of aces, scored two kills and pulled up five digs in the match against Allen County. She also served a pair of aces and pulled up five digs versus Coffeyville.
PCC volleyball travels to Dodge City on Sept. 11 before returning home for a four game home stay in the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena on Sept. 13. First serve for the match against Colby on Sept. 13 is set for 6:30 p.m.
