PCC women's soccer gets Sophomore Day win over Garden City CC

Pratt Community College women's soccer kicked off Sophomore Day with a match against Garden City Community College. The Beavers pressed the offense in the first half and stood strong with a stingy defense throughout the game to come away with the Sophomore Day win. PCC defeats Garden City 3-0.

Cala Jamison started the scoring for the Blue and White with a goal at the eighteen minute mark. Avery Villines took the ball toward the far side goal post and put a cross through the box to Jamison for the goal. Minutes later Villines scored a goal of her own. She struck a corner kick that deflected into the back of the net as it crossed in front of the goal. Later in the half, Veronica Hernandez rounded out the scoring for Pratt with a goal. She was assisted on the goal by Melissa Ramirez-Garcia.

In the second half the Beavers relied on their defense to secure the Sophomore Day win. Goalkeeper Brittany Smith had 11 saves in her second shutout victory of the season. Her other shutout came from a prior game against Garden City which the Blue and White won by a score of 4-0.

PCC women's soccer concludes the 2017 season on Oct. 21 against Barton Community College. Kickoff for the match in Great Bend, Kan. is set for 2 p.m.
