It was a record meet for the Pratt Community College indoor track and field team at the Pittsburg State University Gorilla Open. The two day event saw the Beavers break several school records as athletes competed and qualified for nationals.

Aminata Kenyawani set the Pratt indoor track record for the 3000 meter at the PSU Gorilla Open. She finished with a time of 10:59.72 and placed 23 out of 42. With that time, Kenyawani qualified for the NJCAA indoor national championship meet in the 3000 meter event.

Anysia Romain had a record day for herself at the PSU Gorilla Classic. Romain started off by running a 26.65 in the 200 meter. This broke the 200 meter record of 26.72 set by Tralesha Williams in 2017.

Romain was not finished there. In the 400 meter race she finished with a time of 1:00.00. The previous record of 1:00.53 set by Paula Walker in 1992 fell to Romain by 00.53.

Next up was the 600 yard run. Pratt's Madeline Jacobsen finished with a time of 1:29.69. Jacobsen breaks her old PCC record for the 600 yard run of 1:33.01. Since running the race as a freshmen, Jacobsen has improved her time by over 19 seconds.

Last for the women was the women's 4X400 relay. The team of Feja Hodges, Jacobsen, Ashley Marcelin, and Romain broke the PCC record with a time of 4:05.22. This breaks the previous 4X400 record of 4:16.35 set in 2017 with a team that featured both Jacobsen and Romain.

Concluding the PSU Gorilla Classic for the Beavers was the Men's 4X400 relay. Darius Ruff, Joshua Mitchell, Elijah Battle and Chris McEnery finished the race with a time of 3:20.78. The team broke the previous PCC record of 3:21.86 set in 2017. McEnery was a member of the previous record holding team.

"This season has had a few ups and downs, but this team has gotten better each week," said Jamaal Barnes, head track and field coach at PCC. I know Coach Larson and myself are proud of what they have achieved thus far. We're looking forward to taking by far the most competitive team that Pratt has produced to the Region VI meet to help build on our resume as we look to get a few more of our athletes qualified for indoor nationals."

PCC track and field heads to the Region VI Indoor Championships hosted by Highland Community College in Manhattan, Kan. on Feb. 18. Events start that day at 10 a.m.
