Men's basketball comes up shy of a win against Cowley

Hosting their first home conference contest of the 2018-19 season, Pratt Community College men's basketball challenged Cowley College. A back-and-fourth battle that included several lead changes ended in favor of the Tigers by the end of 40 minutes. Cowley was able to outlast the Beavers for a final score of 90-86.

Fans of the Beaver Nation enjoyed a 52-40 PCC lead at halftime. A couple of first-half long-range buckets from players including guard Drew Maschoff ignited the home crowd and gave Pratt a winning score to work with in the second half. He was the second-highest scorer of the contest with 21 points.

Maschoff acted as more than a staple of offense for his squad. The sophomore Beaver came up with 10 steals to earn the first double-double of the 2018 year that did not include double-digits in the rebound column.

Guard Blake Furcron also finished with a double-double that included 20 points and 11 rebounds. He was a force on the offensive glass in particular with eight boards. He came up just a single point shy of tying Maschoff in earned points.

Momentum shifted in favor of Cowley late in the second half. The blue and white managed to hold a lead until the final two minutes when the Tigers went ahead 83-82 and continued to capitalize. The score was the first Cowley lead in the game since the 15-13 mark. PCC maintained the advantage for a large majority of the game, but 50 second-half points from the Cowley helped to make the difference.

PCC men's basketball will look to start a new winning streak in their next contest. The Beavers will play No. 4 Coffeyville Community College for yet another home conference game. The two sides will tip off in the Lesh Sports Arena on Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.
