Pratt grits out overtime win against Neosho County

PRATT, Kan.- The nightcap at the Beaver Dome was anything but dull, as Coach Flynn's band of brothers orchestrated a late comeback and subsequent 80-77 overtime win against Neosho County.

Point guard Jamel Horton handled the ball and the bulk of the scoring for the Beavers, posting 25 points. Though Horton finished his night 45 percent from the field (5-11), his work getting to the free throw line proved invaluable for Pratt, where he was 13-18 from the stripe. He also recorded nine assists and seven rebounds. Zool Kueth wasn't far behind with 23 points, as the rangy forward shot 53 percent (8-15). Kueth was also 4-9 from beyond the arc, while adding eight rebounds and three blocks.

Deontae Davis and Tommy Thomas also finished in double-figures for the Beavers, scoring 15 and 10 points respectively. A sniper from long range, Davis shot 40 percent from his usual three-point distance (4-10), while Thomas added a pair of triples of his own.

Without a lead for nearly eight minutes, Pratt's Horton approached the free throw line with just over two seconds remaining in the second half with his team trailing 70-69. Making the first free throw, Horton missed the following attempt to send the game into overtime. The Beavers quickly jumped out to a seven-point lead in the extra five minutes, though a quick 7-0 Panthers run knotted the score at 77-77 with just under two minutes remaining. However, Coach Flynn's team was able to find a last gasp on the defensive end, as Pratt was able to put a cork on the Panthers scoring for the remainder of the evening with Horton and Harrison Eghan connecting on late free throws to pull away.

Now 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, the Beavers will travel to Butler Community College on January 8 as the second game of a doubleheader against the Grizzlies. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
