Beavers earn another clean sheet in home conference win

The Pratt Community College men's soccer team came up with their third clean sheet of the season. This time around Pratt hosted Hesston College for a KJCCC matchup at home in Pratt, Kan. The Beavers surpassed the Larks in the end 4-0.

PCC buried Hesston early in the first half. The Beavers' first score came in only three minutes. Defender Yves Cherubin rocketed a shot past the keeper after receiving a ball from sophomore midfielder Uriel Argumedo-Contreras.

Pratt scored again not long after the strike by Cherubin. Forward Andrea Migliozzi took a backseat to his usual scoring role. Instead, Migliozzi crossed a ground ball to freshman Charlie Cartwright. Cartwright had a look at the goal while the keeper was in transition and took a strike to the far post that scored.

The only way Hesston was able to stop PCC from scoring was by fouling. In the tenth minute, just after Cartwright's goal, forward Francesco D'Aulerio bullied his way into the 18-yard box only to get inappropriately tackled by the opposition. The Beavers were awarded a penalty kick because of the foul. The shot was taken by none other than the captain, D'Aulerio, who converted the opportunity and put Pratt up 3-0.

Freshman midfielder Matthew Shumaker scored his first collegiate goal during the game as well. Shumaker found the back of the net with 15 minutes left in the first period. The goal ended up being the last that was scored in the contest and helped solidify a win for the Beavers. D'Aulerio passed a ball through the opposing backline in an attempt to put his team in scoring position. Shumaker got his feet to the ball quicker than the defense or anyone of his teammates. His efforts were rewarded with a scoring opportunity.

Pratt scored all of their goals in the first 45 minutes of the game. The second half was scoreless for both sides as the Beavers earned the right to play a more defensive game due to their first half successes. Pratt held Hesston to only six shots on target in the entire event.

The win put Pratt only a single game away from having a .500 record. By defeating Hesston, Pratt earned their second conference win of the season. The Beavers have a winning record of 3-2 while playing at home.

PCC men's soccer battles their next conference opponent on Sept. 29. The game will be a rematch against Dodge City Community College. Kickoff will occur at 4 p.m.
