Beavers Prepare to Face the Broncbusters

Pratt, KS – Having not played for over ten days, the Pratt Community College (PCC) softball team will return to Angood Field tomorrow afternoon, March 16th for a conference matchup. They will face the Broncbusters of Garden City Community College (GCCC). The Beavers enter the two-game series with a 1-9 overall and 0-8 conference record. Here are five things to know before tomorrow's contest.

  1. Last Time Out: On Saturday, March 5th, the Beavers traveled to Great Bend, KS to take on the Barton Community College (BCC) Cougars. In game one, the Beavers trailed 6-1 entering the fourth inning where they scored two runs to bring the score to 6-3. Unfortunately, in the bottom of the fourth inning they allowed the Cougars 5 runs to end the game after 5 innings 11-3. In game two, much of the same happened with the game being close through two innings 5-2. In the bottom of the third the Cougars scored 5 runs and added 8 more in the bottom of the fourth to sweep Pratt 18-2.
  2. Wilson Leads the Way: Freshman catcher Miranda Wilson is leading the Beavers with a .318 batting average with seven hits, two runs, and 3 RBIs. With 23 plate appearances Wilson has a .348 on base percentage with two strikeouts and one walk. Behind the plate Wilson has ten put outs, three assists, and one error.
  3. Pitching Woes Continue: The pitching concerns have continued into the month of March for the Beavers. Over four gams this month they have given up 61 hits, 58 runs, 48 earned runs, with 15 walks and seven strikeouts. They have allowed 11 homeruns and as a unit have an 18.67 earned run average. Solid pitching and cutting down on errors will be the key to future Beaver success.
  4. Scouting the Broncbusters: Garden City comes into this matchup with an 8-12 overall and 2-4 conference record. The Broncbusters have also not played for over ten days with their last opponent being Northwest Tech on Friday, March 4th. They won both games 13-4 and 14-5. As a team they have a .366 batting average with 18 home runs. On the mound they are averaging an 8.48 ERA.
  5. Up Next: The Beavers will end Spring Break on the road taking on the Saints of Seward County Community College (SCCC) on Saturday, March 19th. They will not return home until Sunday, March 27th to take on the Dodge City Community College (DCCC) Conquistadors.
