Softball Team Prepares for Two Conference Opponents

Pratt, KS – The Beaver softball team will play back-to-back double headers this coming weekend. First, they will travel to Hutchinson Community College (HCC) on Saturday, March 26 for a two-game series against the Blue Dragons. Then on Sunday, they will host Dodge City Community College (DCCC) for a two-game series at Angood Field. Here are five things to know heading into this weekend.

  1. Last Time Out: The Beavers were in action this past weekend on the road at two Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) opponents. The Beavers traveled to Liberal, KS on Saturday, March 19 to face the Seward Saints in a two-game series. They lost game one 14-4 and game two 19-0. Then on Sunday, March 20th, the team headed to Concordia, KS to face the Cloud County Community College (CCCC) T-Birds in a two-game series. The dropped game one in seven innings 8-6 and in game two the team lost 13-5.
  2. Showing Signs of Life: Over the past weekend, the Beavers showed some signs of life. In game one, against Seward they stuck with the Saints all the way until the sixth inning. Being down 6-4 the team allowed the Saints eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Against Cloud County, they completed their first full seven inning game of conference play. In recent games, they have cut down on errors, gotten quality hits and brought across runners in scoring positions. Look for the softball program to improve game by game as we move through this conference season.

Hutch enters this weekend's play on a six-game winning streak. In addition, they are receiving votes in the national poll. As a team, the Blue Dragons are hitting .374 with 41 homeruns. Hutch's pitching unit have a combined 6.04 ERA and averages 6.04 strikeouts per seven innings.
  4. Scouting the Conquistadors: Dodge City enters Sunday's series with an 8-14 overall and 4-6 conference record. They have dropped four games in a row in the previous two weekends against Hutch and Butler. In the batter's box, the team is hitting .318 with 11 home runs. As a pitching unit they average a 6.79 ERA with only 3.98 strikeouts per seven innings.
