Still undefeated in the 2018-19 season, the Pratt Community College women's basketball team hosted Tabor College Junior Varisty at home in Pratt, Kan. The Beavers muscled up to take down the Bluejays 63-26.
Defense has been the name of the game all season long for Pratt. The case was the same for the match against Tabor. A fast and physical Beaver defense held Tabor to only 13 points each half, including a second quarter where the Bluejays were only able to summon up two points.
PCC was able to hold their opposition to a mere 22 percent shooting from the field. The low percentage was caused by a Pratt defense that forced outside jump shots all night long. Forty-seven percent of the shots that Tabor took were from downtown. The Bluejays were only able to convert on three of these opportunities. Pratt was aggressive on defensive but also efficient. They managed to only send their foes to the foul line for a total of five shots.
Pratt posted more points in the first half alone than Tabor did in the entire 40-minute game. Forward Courtney Cleveland (13 points) led in scoring during the match. She also shot a team-high field goal percentage by making 5-of-7 baskets from the field.
Fellow forward Rylee Alexander (12 points) was a single point off from tying her teammate. In only 13 minutes of play, forward Janell Douvier was also able to score 11 points of her own for the blue and white.
"We played sporadically offensively. There was not enough ball movement at times, but we had a very good third quarter. It was our third game in a week and it showed a little, however a win is a win. We had great effort for the most part. The competition will pick up significantly this week. We have to come back focused for a great week of practice," said Head Women's Basketball Coach John Ishee.
PCC women's basketball picks up next with competition when they take on their first opponent from a 2-year college. The Beavers will tip off against Lamar Community College in the Dodge City Classic on Nov. 16.
