Parents Night: Pratt ends regular season with win

For their final regular season game, the Pratt Community College women's basketball team hosted Colby Community College. The Lady Beavers took advantage of a very physical basketball game, scoring 14 points from the charity to win the game 58-44.

The Lady Beavers started out hot, going on a 7-2 run with quick buckets from Courtney Cleveland and ChaDricka Pickett. They continued to score well from the inside, ending the first quarter with a 16-9 lead.

Pratt would lead by as much as nine in the opening minutes of the second, but several empty possessions put Colby back in the game at 20-16. Freshman Toni Cueller ended the Lady Beaver's dry spell, taking it right around her defender for a quick two.

The closing minute of the first half saw a lot of scoring with Pratt falling on the better end of a 5-2 run. They went into the second half up 27-18.

Pratt opened the half with a basket on their first possession and continued to extend their lead in the opening three minutes. Colby ended the run with a three from the wing, cutting the lead to 11.

With about 2:30 left in the third quarter, the Trojans cut the lead to single digits going 2-2 from the line. They followed that with another trip to the line around the 2-minute mark, making it a 37-29. Pratt again ended the quarter on a 5-2 run, putting them up 42-31 at the end of three.  

The fourth quarter had some heated moments with both teams working their way to the line. At times, Colby was a little too heated, picking up a technical that allowed Rylee Alexander to improve Pratt's lead. The Lady Beavers went on to win the game 58-44.

Janell Douvier led the team in scoring, putting up 12 points. Alexander was one rebound away from a double-double, finishing the night with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Pratt shot the ball 42 percent from the field and 70 percent from the charity, making 14 of 20 free throws.

The win over Colby concludes the regular season for the Lady Beavers. The finish with an overall record of 18-10 and a conference record of 11-9. They will host their first post-season game in over a decade this Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in the Beaver Dome.
