Women's basketball loses 76-42 to #2 South Plains

PRATT, Kan.- Welcoming the second-ranked Lady Texans to the Beaver Dome this afternoon, Coach Ishee's bunch had their sights on a monumental upset. South Plains College was not so warm to the idea, however.

Following a tight first-half, the Lady Texans separated themselves away from the Beavers in the final 20 minutes, winning 76-42. A long, rangy South Plains team won the defensive battle for much of the afternoon, outscoring Pratt 38-17 in the second-half.

Sophomore Rylee Alexander mustered all she could on the offensive end, leading the Beavers with 11 points to go with five rebounds and a steal. She was the only Beaver to finish the game in double figures. Freshman Jordan Mathis did well to create scoring opportunities at the free throw line, going 6-9 at the stripe. She finished with eight points.

A talented Lady Texans team used its size to its advantage, as Pratt was unable to find much consistency on the offensive end of the floor. The Beavers shot only 21 percent from the field (11-58), and were unable to capitalize from the three-point line (3-23). In a game such as this, Pratt failed to win either of the rebounding or turnover margins, as South Plains outboxed the Beavers 39-26, and forced the Beavers into 20 turnovers compared to 16 of their own.

The Beavers will have a few days to recuperate, as Allen County Community College will be at the Beaver Dome on Wednesday, November 27 for a scheduled doubleheader. The women tip-off at 4:30 PM.
