Women's Basketball
Opening their conference schedule with a home tilt against Allen County Community College, the Beavers wanted to put an emphatic stamp on their place in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. They did so tonight, winning 74-49 at the Beaver Dome.
Janell Douvier put a tough afternoon against South Plains College in the rearview mirror, leading the Beavers with 12 points, shooting 50 percent from the field (5-10), with her smooth shooting stroke connecting on a pair of triples. She also led the team with eight rebounds. Gritty freshman Jordan Mathis was only 2-8 from the field, but she forced her way to the free throw line, while recording seven rebounds and five steals. She finished the night with nine points.
Jayda Garrett added a long-distance spark off of the bench, shooting 50 percent from deep (2-4). Evan Sanchez, though limited in minutes, effectively crashed the boards, grabbing seven total rebounds. Both Garrett and Sanchez added eight points each.
The Beavers were the better team in many aspects of the 25-point win. Pratt shot 39 percent from deep (11-28) compared to the Red Devils 14 percent (3-21), while out-rebounding Allen County 44-28.
Coach Ishee's team returns on Saturday for a 2 PM rematch against Otero Junior College. The two teams played earlier this season, with the Rattlers defending their home turf over the Beaver 77-65 on November 15.
Men's Basketball
A one-point Red Devils halftime lead didn't last long, as the Beavers eventually ran out to a 10-point lead midway through the second-half. Allen County however, clawed its way back, winning a decisive conference battle 85-77.
Zool Kueth led the Beavers with 18 points, shooting 50 percent from both the field as a whole (7-14) and from the three-point line (4-8). He also added seven rebounds. Speaking of three's, Deontae Davis was lights out from deep, as the sophomore was perfect from beyond the arc (5-5). All 15 of his points were courtesy of the three-ball.
Mahamadou Nimaga had 13 points to go with seven assists, while Jamel Horton added 10 points off of the bench.
The Beavers were not given much benefit of the doubt on the defensive end, being called for 26 fouls compared to Allen County's 12. The Red Devils took advantage of the disparity, connecting on 25 of 33 foul shots (76 percent). The turnaround will be quick for the Beavers, as they host Bethel College's junior varsity team at the Dome on Saturday, November 30 as the second game of a doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 PM.
