Women's basketball notches impressive road win at Cowley

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan.- The Cowley County Tigers entered the evening a clean 12-0 on the young season. However, before tonight, the Tigers had yet to see the Beavers.

Pratt exited the W.S. Scott Auditorium with a 70-62 win, moving the Beavers to 8-3 in the early season. Coach Ishee's team is also now 2-0 in KJCCC play.

Freshman Jordan Mathis continues to impress, as the Texas native had her most productive night of the season, posting 15 points and 10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double. Mathis was 6-11 from the field, with six of her 10 rebounds coming on the offensive end of the floor. Dymond McElrath, the general on the floor for Coach Ishee, orchestrated a season-high 13 points on 50 percent shooting (4-8). She also had four assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals.

Rylee Alexander was the other Beaver to finish her evening in double-figures, recording 12 points, while connecting on 50 percent of her field goal tries (4-8). It was a tough night shooting for Janell Douvier, who was only 1-7 from the floor, but her size and effort down low was invaluable in the win, as she had a game-high nine rebounds.

The Beavers went into halftime with a slim 36-34 lead, though Pratt clamped down on the defensive end in the opening quarter of the second-half, allowing only 10 Tiger points. Leading 57-44 entering the final quarter, the Beavers were able to stave off a late Cowley County rally en route to Pratt's second conference win of the season.

Coach Ishee and his team return to action this Saturday for another conference road matchup, as he and his girls travel to Coffeyville in an afternoon tilt against the Red Ravens. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 PM.
