CONCORDIA, Kan.- Just days after a disappointing loss at Butler, the Beavers managed to not allow their previous performance to linger, grabbing a road win at Cloud County by a score of 63-52.
Jordan Mathis paved the way for Pratt, posting a game-high 16 points to go with her five rebounds. Though she was four of nine from the field (44 percent), Mathis' success at the free throw line was crucial, making eight of nine attempts. Off the bench, Rylee Alexander finished with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
A dominating first quarter set the pace for Coach Ishee's squad, outscoring the Thunderbirds 20-9, a credit to the Beavers forcing nine early turnovers. Though the Beavers were outscored 33-26 over the middle two , the Beavers won the game on the back of a strong fourth quarter.
Holding a slim 46-42 lead entering the final 10 minutes, the Beavers defense forced the Thunderbirds to shoot 33 percent (5-15), including 0-5 from three-point range. Holding a 10-point lead with just under two minutes left in the ballgame, the Beavers were able to kill the clock and ice the game.
The Beavers are now 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the KJCCC. Next is a matchup with Barton on Monday night at 5:30 PM.
