Barton bests Beavers 61-52

PRATT, Kan.- The Beavers never managed to find a successful formula against the Barton Cougars, losing 61-52.

Janell Douvier led Pratt in scoring with 14 points, where she was 5-12 from the field (42 percent), including 3-8 from beyond the arc (38 percent). She also posted eight rebounds. Dymond McElrath was in double-figures for the fourth time in six games, going for 12 points. Her three assists were also tied for the team lead. Always around the rim, Jordan Mathis managed 11 points on 4-5 shooting (80 percent). Off the bench, Tytianna Haamid grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

From the offset, the Beavers were never able to get into an offensive rhythm. As a team, Pratt shot 36 percent (20-56), struggling mightily from three-point range (7-30). In terms of the little things, the Beavers lost the turnover margin, giving the ball away 16 times compared to Barton's 11. At the free throw line, Pratt shot only 50 percent (5-10). 

The loss drops the Beavers to 11-6 on the season and 5-3 in the KJCCC. Coach Ishee's team will have a quick turnaround, traveling to Liberal to play Seward County on Wednesday, January 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 PM.
