Beavers Open 2023 With Conference Win at Garden City

Pratt, Kan. - The Pratt Community College women's basketball team kicked of 2023 with a trip to Garden City, KS to take on the Broncbusters on Wednesday, January 4. The game started very slowly as both teams were looking to shake off the winter break jitters. Garden City struck first in the game at the 8:56 mark. It was all Broncbusters in the first quarter as Pratt did not score until the 6:23 mark in the quarter. The Beavers only scored seven points in the first quarter and were down 14-7 at the end of the first.  

In the second quarter, the roles reversed as Pratt scored 20 points to tie the game 27-27 at halftime. Pratt never held a lead during the first half. Pratt tied the game up three separate times in the third quarter, pulling the game within one point 41-40 with 40 seconds to go in the quarter. Garden City lead 43-40 after three. Pratt took their first lead of the game 49-48 with 4:20 left in the game. The Beavers scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to win the game 65-58. 

Princess Anderson wasted no time in 2023 to continue her scoring dominance with 27 points and three steals. Freshman Emily Acton had one of her better games in a Beaver uniform with 17 points. The Cimmaron, KS native played in front of a packed crowd of family and friends. Pratt was outrebounded by the Broncbusters 32-31 while the Beavers scored 36 points from their bench. Pratt will host Coffeyville Community College on Saturday, January 7 at 2:00 pm.
