Baseball goes 2-1 against Vernon College

The Pratt Community College baseball team made another trip to Texas, playing a three-game series against Vernon College. The Beavers took game one and three to pick up the win and improve their overall record to 8-2.

Sean McElwee got the win in game one for Pratt. He lasted six innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out four. Ky Hampton threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

With the game tied at two run each going into the top of the sixth, Hamilton scored Rivera on a sacrifice fly to give the Beavers a one run advantage. Rivera would bring in Roadhouse on a bunt in the seventh for the final run of the game.

Both teams were strong on the hill in game two. Rivera went 2-3 at the plate, but it wasn't enough for Pratt to pull out the win. They would lose 1-0 with Vernon scoring the only run in the game in the sixth.

Saturday's game three was a shootout. Despite seven errors, Pratt would pick up the win with 12 runs on 16 hits. Six runs game in the first four innings but Pratt had their biggest in the fifth with six runners crossing home.

Vernon rallied in the seventh, bringing home four runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early game deficit.

Pratt won game three 12-7 to take the series 2-1.

The Beavers continue their road streak this Tuesday, traveling to Rose State College in Midwest City, Okla. Game one of the doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m.
