Track & Field Team Headed to NJCAA Region VI Meet

The Pratt Community College (PCC) track & field team is undergoing final preparations for the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC)/Region VI Outdoor Track and Field Championships taking place this weekend in Garden City, KS.

“We are looking for athletes to set personal records,” said Head Track and Field Coach Quintin Powell. “Go out and compete and work to qualify for nationals.”

On Friday, May 6, the team will compete in the 100m prelims, 200m prelims, long jump and discuss. The following day, May 7, the Beavers will start competing at 12:35 pm and will conclude around 4:40 pm with the 4x400m relay. Beavers to watch out for this weekend include:

  • Crispus Atukwatse- 1500m, 800m
  • Cole Darling- 400m
  • Andrew Wilson- 400m, 4x400m Relay
  • Colin Turley- 5000m
  • Jalen Ghee- 100m, 200m, 4x400m Relay
  • Omari John- 100m, 200m, 4x400m Relay
  • Evan Paris- 200m
  • Tyler Sonnier- 4x400m Relay
  • Kenny McCartney- Discuss

“Literally go out there with an utter belief and perform,” said Director of Cross County, Track and Field Mathew Scott. “This is the culmination of the indoor and outdoor season for athletes to put forth their best effort of the season.”

This is one of only two more opportunities the Beavers will have to qualify for the national championships. The team is scheduled to travel to Friends University next Friday, May 13 for a last chance qualifier meet. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set for May 19-20 in Hutchinson, KS.
