Beavers Sweep Garden City To End Losing Streak

The Pratt Community College baseball team completed a four-game sweep of the Garden City Community College Broncbusters this past week. The first two games of the series took place on Thursday, Apr. 4 in Garden City, Kan. while the last two games of the series were played in Pratt, Kan on Saturday, Apr. 6.  

Game One 

In game one between Pratt and Garden City, the Beavers emerged victorious with a final score of 9-2. Pratt had a strong offensive performance, scoring early with four runs in the first inning. They continued to add to their lead throughout the game. 

Jaden Flores had a standout game, scoring three runs and hitting a home run. Skylar Chavez also had an impressive performance, driving in three runs with a key single. Drew Bugner also contributed with a home run of his own. 

On the pitching side, Josh Doelitsch had a solid outing for Pratt, allowing only two runs over five innings of work. Nash Crosby came in for relief and shut down Garden City for the final two innings. 

Game Two 

In a dominating performance in game two, Pratt defeated Garden City with a final score of 22-6. The Beavers offense was firing on all cylinders, scoring runs in every inning except the second. The team's hitters were led by Ben Waliczek, who had a stellar game going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Tytin Goebel also had a standout performance, going 2 for 5 with 5 RBIs. 

On the pitching side, Nick Noble was credited with the win for Pratt Community College, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Garden City struggled to contain Pratt's offense, with their pitchers giving up 22 runs on 16 hits. 

Game Three 

With a 2-0 series lead, Pratt came out on top with a 10-2 victory in the third game of the series. Gavin Djurovic led the charge with four RBIs, including a home run. Payton Mitchell also contributed with two RBIs, while Jaden King added two RBIs of his own. The team took advantage of Garden City's pitching, scoring runs in multiple innings to secure the win. 

On the pitching side, Cayden Brown of Pratt Community College had a strong performance, allowing only two runs on one hit over six innings of work. He struck out four batters and walked five. Max Moreno came in for relief and shut down Garden City's offense to secure the win. 

Game Four 

Garden City started game four strong in the first inning, with Wyatt Anderson hitting a three-run homer, bringing in Kaelen Bing and Nick Barber. However, Pratt responded, with Jaden Flores hitting an RBI single in the first inning. The game remained close until the sixth inning when the Beavers pulled ahead, scoring multiple runs, including a two-RBI single by Drew Bugner and an RBI double by Seth Zimmerman. The Beavers pulled ahead to secure the series sweep with a 13-3 victory. Pratt's pitchers, Cardon Padgett, and Gavin Phippen, held Garden City Community College to only three runs throughout the game.  

Up Next 

The Beavers will host the Baker University (JV) team on Monday, Apr. 8 at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. before starting their next four game conference series against Butler at home on Thursday, Apr. 11.
