Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mathew Scott Resigns

As of Monday, Feb. 19, Mathew Scott, director of track & field and cross country, has resigned from Pratt Community College after serving in his role since 2022. Scott has taken the head cross country coach/assistant track and field coach position at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va.

"We want to thank Coach Scott for his dedication and leadership to our student-athletes," said Athletic Director Larry Johnston. "Coach Scott has been instrumental as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Pratt Community College. We wish him the best in his new endeavor."

Under Coach Scott's leadership the Beavers qualified for and competed at the 2022 NJCAA Cross Country & Half Marathon Championships with three runners Jamaira Ross, Collin Turley, and Crispus Atukwatse. Ross broke the school's women's 5K record that same season with a time of 19:20.5 at the 34th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival. Ross also broke the school record in the women's steeplechase with a time of 11:55.35 at the 2023 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. Ross finished her time as a Beaver as an all-American.

On the track and field side of his responsibilities, Coach Scott coached distance runners, jumps, and throws. During the 2023 indoor track and field season Brock Herrman broke the school's weight throw record from 1990. High Jumper Branden Colglazier finished first overall at the KJCCC/NJCAA Region VI Indoor Track and Field Championships. In addition, Coach Scott was instrumental in freshman Aiden Skiles competing in the heptathlon in the 2024 indoor track and field season. Skiles had two top ten finishes in the indoor season.

The school will search immediately to find a suitable replacement.
