PCC men's soccer drops home opener to Coffeyville CC

The Pratt Community College men's soccer team held their home opener against Coffeyville Community College. In a chippy game, Coffeyville was awarded a penalty kick in the middle of the first half. The kick was good to put Coffeyville on the score board. That would be the deciding goal as PCC falls at home to Coffeyville, 0-1.

PCC found themselves down early after the penalty kick. They applied offensive pressure by controlling the ball and creating chances. The Blue and White just could not find the back of the net behind a strong Coffeyville defense. In the final minutes of the match the Beavers controlled the ball and tried to score off of a few free kicks and a corner kick. It all came down to a final shot and the Coffeyville goalkeeper came up with the stop to secure the win.

The Blue and White combined for nine shots in the game led by Francesco D'Aurelio with three. Defensively Pratt was strong only conceding the goal on the penalty kick. Goaltender Scott Clark had two saves on three shots on goal.

"Once again we played good defense," Coach Kevin Kewley said. "We will have to improve our offense to compete with the top teams."

PCC men's soccer hits the road to open conference play against Northwest Kansas Tech on Sept. 5. Kickoff for the match will be at 4 p.m.
