PCC wrestling opens the 2017-18 season at the Dan Harris Open

The Pratt Community College wrestling team began the 2017-18 season at the Dan Harris Open. Returning several national qualifiers and adding accomplished freshmen to the team, this was the first test for the Beavers this season.

At 125, Dallas Wilson made a statement in his first competition for the Blue and White. Wilson won his first two matches by decision (dec 5-1; dec7-4). In the semifinals, Wilson scored a fall over Robert Ozuna of York at the 5:24 mark of round three. In the first place match, Wilson got a close 7-6 decision over Cody Phippen to take first place in the class.

In the 133 lbs class Justin Hershberger fell in the quarterfinals. He would rally to go all the way to the third place match before falling to Tyler Dickman of Baker by a 3-8 decision. Despite the loss, Hershberger took fourth in the weight class.

Dalton Hensley competed for Pratt at 149. He lost by decision in his first match, but rallied in the consolation bracket. Hensley won the next two rounds, the first by decision and then getting a fall victory over Danny Neeley of Baker at the 6:59 mark. Hensley lost a close match in the fourth consolation round to Dom Nobile by a 3-4 decision.

At 174, national qualifier James Ellis lost a close 8-9 first round decision to Tyler Selemaea of Central Missouri. Ellis gained decisions in his next two consolation round matches, and in round four he gained a fall victory over John Hughes of Baker at the 4:44 mark. Ellis lost the fifth round to Noah Aziere of Cloud County by decision.

PCC wrestling travels to Lindsborg, KS for the Bethany Swede Open on Nov. 11. The competition for the Beavers begins at 9 a.m.
