PCC women's basketball falls short against Coffeyville CC

The Pratt Community College women's basketball team returned to Dennis Lesh Sports Arena for a matchup against Coffeyville Community College. The Beavers controlled the lead in the first half using a zone defense to force Coffeyville to shoot from range. Coffeyville took the lead in the third quarter leading to Pratt attempting a rally in the fourth quarter. The rally fell short as PCC falls to Coffeyville 61-65.

Pratt controlled the first period after striking quick with a 6-0 lead. Coffeyville came back in the middle of the quarter forcing both teams to trade points. The Blue and White closed out the quarter with a 15-10 lead sparked by a steal and a three pointer by Jada Catlin followed with a basket by Dakota Smith.

PCC controlled the lead in the second period, but Coffeyville kept pace. The Blue and White went into the locker room at half with a 27-24 lead.

The lead for the Beavers was quickly erased at the beginning of the third period. Coffeyville came out of the half and made the first eight points of the second half. PCC clawed away to take back the lead. A three point bucket by Channa Parvin tied the game at 41 for the Blue and White, but a quick run by Coffeyville sent Pratt into the fourth trailing 41-48.

A rally by the Beavers led to a tie at 54 with four minutes left to play. The rally stalled there as Coffeyville took advantage and secured the win as time ran out for Pratt.

The starters for the Blue and White were led in scoring by Parvin. She finished with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists. Catlin led the Beavers in assists with four. In the post, Tianna Tullis and Dakota Smith were the leading rebounders for Pratt. Tullis finished just shy of a double-double with nine points, nine rebounds, two assists and a steal. Smith had nine points, six rebounds and an assist. Coming off of the bench, Rebecca Younis had herself a game. Younis led PCC in scoring with 15 points and was a perfect four for four from the free throw line.

Player of the game goes to Coffeyville's Alexis Wooden. She finished the game with 12 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists.

PCC women's basketball travels to Chanute, KS to face Noesho County Community College on Dec. 2. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
