PCC women's basketball defends the Dome against Neosho CC

Pratt Community College women's basketball defended the Dome against Neosho County Community College on Feb. 7. The Beavers and Neosho battled in a tightly contested game. In the end, Pratt used an 18-1 run in the final period to take the win, 68-60.

The first half was a back and forth matchup between the Blue and White and Neosho. Between the two teams there were 10 lead changes and five ties with neither team gaining more than a five point lead. Pratt went into the locker room at half with a 31-30 lead.

Neosho came out in the third period and pushed the lead to eight points. The Beavers battled back for the rest of the period. PCC trailed heading into the fourth 47-48.

Neosho extended the lead back up to eight early in the fourth period. Down nine, the Beavers called a time out. The Blue and White started their 18-1 run from there. Nya Mach began the run going one for two from the free throw line. Rebecca Younis was fouled a short time later. She made both free throws and then had a steal on the ensuing inbound and hit a layup to cut the lead to four. Younis hit two more free throws to complete six straight points. Dakota Smith tied the game with a layup at 59-59 with 2:29 left to play. Nia Mach hit a three pointer a minute later to give Pratt their final lead of the game. Neosho was forced to foul to extend the game. Down the stretch PCC made six of eight free throws to seal the victory for the Blue and White.

The Beavers used a mix of guard play against Neosho. Jada Catlin came off the bench to lead Pratt with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Younis finished the game with 11 points, two rebounds and a steal. Smith came up big for the Blue and White in the post with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Player of the game goes to Neosho's Erica Birch with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.

PCC women's basketball travels to Colby, Kan. to face Colby Community College on Feb. 10. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
