PCC baseball routs Hesston College

After a weather canceled weekend series, the Pratt Community College baseball team hosted Hesston College at Stanion Field. The bats came alive for the Beavers against Hesston. PCC takes a resounding win, 10-0 in seven innings.

Pratt and Hesston were even through the first two innings. The Blue and White got on the board in the bottom of the third thanks to some aggressive base running and a single by Trace Maddux that knocked in Darrian Aldridge from third base. Maddux scored on a double steal move that saw the Hesston catcher have a throwing error.

The Beaver offense exploded for a five run inning in the bottom of the fourth. Sean Johnson started the inning off with a solo home run to left center field. With two outs, Aldridge drove in Eric Escamilla with a single to center. Aldridge then stole second. Maddux came back to the plate and singled driving in Aldridge. Elerie Rivera followed with a single to left to drive in Maddux. Rivera singled to left driving in Maddux from second. Rivera stole second and thanks to an error, was able to score.

Ken Gonzalez added to the Pratt lead with a solo home run in the fifth. This was Gonzalez first home run of the season.

In the bottom of the sixth and Rivera and Maddux on second and third Ben Van Diest doubled to right driving in two runs and closing out the scoring for the Blue and White. PCC gets three outs in the top of the seventh to end the game.

The pitching rotating had a full day of work against Hesston. As a team, the Beavers gave up only three hits and three walks. Out of the 28 batters they faced the Blue and White struck out 11. Lucas Wepf gets his first win of the season for Pratt. The starter had two innings of work where he gave up a single hit while striking out four batters.

Player of the game goes to PCC's Maddux. Maddux went three for four in the game with three runs and two RBIs.

PCC baseball continues their road stand with a four game series against Iowa Lakes Community College on Feb. 17 and 18. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on both days.
