PCC softball splits double header with Friends University JV

Pratt Community College softball returned to Angood Field to face Friends University JV in a double header on Feb. 15. The Beavers and Falcons battled it out for a 1-1 split of the double header.

Friends came out and put up three quick runs in the top of the first. The Blue and White countered to tie things up in the bottom half of the inning thanks to the long ball. Taylor Schuller led off with a solo home run to left. With Kelie Byers on first, Katie Otto homered to tie the game at 3-3.

Friends quickly retook the lead in the second, but Schuller knocked in Michelle Castillo from second to keep the game tied after two innings of play. Friends' bats came to life in the fourth and fifth scoring eight runs to take the game one victory. PCC falls in game one 4-12.

In game 2, Friends once again came out and took the lead thanks to a home run by Forshey. The Beavers took the lead once it was their turn at the plate. With runners on second and third Garcia hit the ball to center field to drive in the runs.

Pratt lost the lead in the third as Friends put three runs across the plate and then added two more in the fourth inning. PCC trailed 2-6 heading into the bottom of the fourth. The Blue and White loaded the bases and went to work chipping away at the lead. Byers hit a ground out sacrifice to the second basemen that brought in a run. Lexi Sanborn then came to the plate and tied the game with at three run blast to left. The game was knotted up at 6-6 after four innings.

MiKayla Keeling homered in the fifth to give Friends the lead once more. In the bottom of the fifth, Pratt brought in three runs to reclaim the lead. With runners on second and third, Kiara Whitmore singled to right field bringing the runs home. The Beavers were able to load the bases bringing Whitmore to third. Byers then hit a sacrifice fly to the center fielder to bring in Whitmore. The defense for the Blue and White held for the final two innings to take a 9-7 win and a split for the double header.

Player of the game in game one goes to Breanna Vest of Friends. She finished 4-4 with three runs and three RBIs.

PCC softball continues a 10 game home stand with a double header against Hesston College on Feb. 20. First pitch of the double header is set for 2 p.m.
