PCC women's basketball drops game to Cowley CC

Pratt Community College women's basketball celebrated Sophomore Day with a matchup against Cowley College. The Beavers fought and controlled the lead for much of the game, however a last period scoring drought allowed Cowley to climb back and take the win. PCC falls 54-63.

Both teams battled early in a first period that saw five lead changes and three ties. A layup by Bayli Miller put the Blue and White up three late in the first. B Silva hit a free throw in the final minute of play for Cowley to cut the lead to one, but a pair of free throws by Channa Parvin allowed the Beavers to take a three point lead into the second period.

The Beavers managed to hold off Cowley in the second period thanks to team rebounding. Miller managed to secure a steal and hit a three to close out the scoring in the first half. PCC entered the locker room at halftime leading 30-24.

Pratt held the lead for the third period, but a late surge by Cowley kept the score close. A three pointer by Potter in the final minute of the period allowed Cowley to cut the lead to one. The Beavers led by a slim margin at 47-46 heading into the fourth period.

In the final period of play, the Blue and White went cold from the field. Cowley capitalized to take the lead early in the period. Pratt tried to come back, but the shots were not falling as Cowley holds on.

The pair of Miller and Parvin led the Beavers on Sophomore Day. Parvin led the Blue and White in scoring with 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Miller finished the game with 10 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Mackenzie Anderson came off the bench for 13 points. Dakota Smith was the leading rebounder for Pratt with 11 rebounds.

Player of the game goes to Cowley's Kaitlyn Potter. Potter finished the game leading all scorers with 25 points and nine rebounds.

PCC women's basketball travels to Allen County Community College on Feb. 26 to wrap up the regular season. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
