PCC softball begins conference play against Dodge City CC

Conference play began for Pratt Community College softball with a double header against Dodge City Community College. The Beavers and the Conqs offenses went to work early in the double header scoring in bursts throughout both games. In the end, Dodge City used two such scoring spurts to take both double header games. PCC falls 0-2 to Dodge City.

Game 1 was a home run fest through the early innings. In the first inning, Bailey Jo Hiser flew out to right field to bring home Brittney Gonzalez from third. Samantha Montano followed that up with the first home run of the game. PCC managed to score a run in the first thanks to an errant throw by the second baseman. After the first inning, PCC trailed 1-2.

Dodge City scored a run in the second and then Brooklyn Botts hit a two run home run in the third. Pratt fell behind 1-5 going into the bottom of the third inning. The Blue and White used the long ball to mount a comeback. Marisa Jonas homered in the bottom of the third scoring Monica Courville. In the fourth inning, Lyndsey Loomis hit a shot over the right field fence bringing home Kaylan Garcia and tying the game up at 5-5 after four innings.

Sparked by another home run by Botts, Dodge City scored seven runs through the fifth and sixth innings and held off the Beavers to secure the win in Game 1.

Courville and Loomis led the Blue and White in Game 1 of the double header. Courville went two for four at the plate with one run. Loomis finished the game going two for three at the plate with two RBIs and a run.

Player of Game 1 goes to Dodge City's Montano. She ended the game going four for five with four RBIs and three runs.

In Game 2, Dodge City came out with an eight run burst in the first inning. The Beavers cut into the lead with runs in the second inning and fifth inning, but Dodge City added to the lead to take the win in Game 2. PCC loses Game 2 4-13.

Jonas and Loomis commanded the offense for Pratt in Game 2. Jonas led the Blue and White from the plate. She went two for three with two RBIs and a run. Loomis finished the game going one for three at the plate with a run and an RBI.

PCC softball returns to play in a reschedule double header against Hesston College on March 1. First pitch in Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
