PCC baseball concludes Cloud County CC series

Pratt Community College baseball traveled to Concordia, Kan. to wrap up a four game series with Cloud County Community College. After falling in the first two games of the series, the Beavers looked to even thing up on the road. Game 3 was a defensive stand still for most of the game with neither team budging. Cloud broke the deadlock with runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Pratt loses in Game 3 0-6. The Blue and White came out in Game 4 and quickly claimed a lead. A big inning by Cloud in the third allowed the T-Birds to take the lead. Pratt mounted a rally in the seventh inning, but could not retake the lead. PCC drops Game 4 to Cloud 5-6.

At the plate for Pratt in Game 3, Eric Escamilla, Kenneth Gonzalez, and Ashton Roy stood out for the Beavers. Escamilla was a perfect one for one at bat. Gonzalez ended the game one for two. Roy went one for three. On the mound, Dalton Huggins threw the complete game allowing four runs on eight hits and giving up four walks. Huggins struck out eight of the 29 batters that he faced.

The Blue and White took the lead in the first inning of Game 4. With two runners on base, Roy hit a single to bring Elerie Rivera home. Gonzalez followed with a double to left that scored Trace Maddux. Cloud cut into the lead with a run in the second. Pratt would get the run back in the top of the third, but Cloud went on a tear in the bottom half of the inning scoring five runs. The game turned in to a defensive battle until Pratt put together a rally in the seventh. With runners on second and third, Cloud threw a wild pitch allowing Maddux to score from third. Gonzalez then singled to drive Sean Johnson home. The rally ended there, but the Blue and White trailed Cloud 5-6. Unfortunately, that was as close as Pratt would come to taking the lead. Cloud's defense came through in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the win. PCC comes up short 5-6.

In Game 4, Gonzalez went a perfect three for three at bat and led the Beavers in RBIs with two. Johnson was two for five at the plate with two runs. Maddux finished the game two for four with a pair of runs. The highlight on the mound for Pratt was the pitching of Elijah Boyer. Boyer threw 4.1 innings giving up two hits and two walks to Cloud. He struck out four of the 17 batters he faced.
