PCC softball faces road battle against Garden City CC

Pratt Community College softball traveled to Garden City Community College for a conference double header. The Beavers battled in both games mounting late rallies against Garden City. The rallies fell short both times as PCC falls 0-2 in the double header.

Garden took an early lead in the first inning. The Blue and White answered by getting on the board in the second. Garden added runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Pratt mounted a three inning rally getting runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. The rally came to an end with Garden getting the third out in the seventh. PCC falls to Garden City 5-7 in Game 1.

Tymarra Bryant, Kelie Byers, Monica Courville, and Katie Otto commanded the offense for the Blue and White in the first game. Bryant finished the game two for three at the plate with a double, a run and an RBI. Byers had the highest batting average for the Beavers going two for three with a double, a run and an RBI. Courville ended the game going two for four with a single and a double, a run and an RBI. Otto was two for four with two singles and a run.

The Beavers got out to an early lead with a big second inning at bat. Sparked by Otto with a two run home run, Pratt scored six runs. Garden chipped away at the lead and tied the game after the third inning at 6-6. Following a double, Makenzie Anderson used smart base running to score on an errant throw from third to give the Blue and White the lead once more. Garden reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth with two runs. Marisa Jonas hit a home run in the fifth and Pratt scored two more in the inning on an error for a 10-8 PCC lead. Garden battled back in the fifth and sixth to take the lead heading into the seventh inning. Trailing 10-12, a single by Kaylan Garcia drove in Courville. With bases loaded and one out, the Beaver rally fell apart as the Garden City defense got the final two outs. PCC comes up short to Garden City 11-12.

Anderson, Garcia, and Otto led the way for the Blue and White at the plate in the second game. Anderson ended the game two for five at the plate with a double and two runs. Garcia was three for four with two runs and an RBI. Otto finished three for four at the plate with two RBIs, two runs, a double and a home run.

PCC softball travels to Wichita, Kan. on March 23 for a double header against Friends University JV. First pitch is at 1 p.m. with the second game starting around 3 p.m.
