PCC baseball begins a four game series against Butler CC

Pratt Community College baseball returned to Stanion Field to begin a four-game series with Butler Community College. The Beaver bats came alive against Butler in both games, but a late game rally in game 2 ended the double header in a split with each team taking a game. PCC takes game 1 by the score of 7-2, but fall in game 2 10-12.

Butler started the scoring in the third inning with a pair of runs. In the bottom of the fifth, Pratt struck back. With bases loaded, Ashton Roy tripled to right field driving the runners in to take a 3-2 lead. Kenneth Gonzalez followed up with a single to right to bring Roy home. The Blue and White scored three runs in the sixth to add to the lead and secure the game 1 7-2 win.

Elerie Rivera led the Beavers at the plate in game 1. Rivera finished the game with two hits on three at bats with two runs. Trace Maddux followed Rivera going one for two at the plate with a run and an RBI. Roy ended the game going one for four with a team leading three RBIs and a run. On the mound, Sean McElwee got the win throwing a complete game of seven innings. McElwee gave up six hits and two runs. He threw no walks, and struck out three of the 26 batters he faced.

In game 2 Butler came out taking an early lead. The Blue and White had a big inning in the sixth sparked by a two-run home run by Roy. Pratt put across five runs in the inning and four runs in the seventh to take a 10-4 lead into the eighth inning. Butler rallied cutting the lead to one run heading to the bottom of the eighth. Butler scored three runs in the top of the ninth and used their defense to take the win in game 2.

Pratt had a slew of batter contribute to the offense in game 2. Rivera finished two for six with a run and an RBI. Eric Escamilla ended the game two for five at the plate with two runs and an RBI. Keaton Gage also went two for five with two runs and an RBI. Maddux led the Beavers in RBIs with three. He ended the game going two for four at bat.

PCC baseball travels to El Dorado, Kan. to finish the series with a double header on March 24. First pitch is at 1 p.m. with the second game starting around 3:30 p.m.
