PCC baseball sweeps Bethany College JV in a high scoring double header

A blustery day at Stanion Field turned the double header between Pratt Community College Baseball and Bethany College JV into a high scoring affair. Using the wind as an advantage, the Beavers and Swedes scored runs in droves. In the end, Pratt gets the sweep winning 23-13 in the first game and 32-15 in the second game against Bethany.

The Blue and White blistered the ball in the first game with five players hitting home runs. Gage Axline started the slugfest off with a two run home run in the first inning. Axline finished the game two for five at the plate with three RBIs and two runs. Kenneth Gonzalez followed with a three run home run. Gonzalez ended the game four for five with a team leading six RBIs and three runs. Trace Maddux batted three for four with a team high five runs and three RBIs on top of his home run. Ashton Roy hit one for three with three RBIs, two runs and a home run. Eric Escamilla rounded out the home run hitters for Pratt in game one finishing the game two for three with three runs and three RBIs.

Two other players for the Beavers were perfect at the plate in the first game. Elerie Rivera batted three for three with two runs and an RBI. Sean Johnson went two for two with four runs and an RBI.

Nicholas Gardener gets the game 1 win for Pratt on the mound. In three innings of work Gardener gave six walks, two runs, a hit and a home run. Gardener also struck out eight of the 18 batters he faced from the mound.

While the home runs were toned down in game 2, the scoring boomed even more. Rivera hit four for five with five RBIs and three runs. Carl Cooper batted three for four with five runs and two RBIs. Darrian Aldridge finished three for five for the game with four RBIs and three runs.

Two more batters were perfect at the plate in the second game in the double header. Johnson was once again perfect going three for three with three runs and two RBIs. Eric Escamilla ended the game five for five at bat with five runs and three RBIs.

PCC baseball begins a four game series against Dodge City Community College on April 4. The first two games in the series are on the road in Dodge City. First pitch to the first game is at 2 p.m. with the second game beginning around 4 p.m.
