PCC baseball and Dodge City split first half of four game series

Pratt Community College baseball and Dodge City Community College battled in the first two games of a four game series. With the first two games in Dodge City, the Beavers rallied for five runs in the sixth inning to take a 12-9 lead. Dodge City added a pair of runs in the seventh, but Pratt held on to take the game 1 win at 12-11.

The Blue and White scored in the first inning, but Dodge City quickly came back to take the lead. After two innings Pratt trailed 2-9. The Beavers mounted a comeback scoring three runs in the fourth to cut into the lead.

PCC scored the rest of their runs off of the long ball. Keaton Gage got things started in the fifth with a two run home run to left field. The rally in the sixth was sparked by a two run home run by Sean Johnson that tied the game at 9-9. Three batters later and with two runners on base, Eric Escamilla hit a bomb to left field to give the Beavers a 12-9 lead. Dodge City got two runs in the final inning, but Pratt got the outs they needed to take the win.

In the first game, Gage ended the game two for three with three RBIs and three runs. Johnson batted one for four with a pair of RBIs and a run. Escamilla hit two for three with four RBIs and a run.

Pratt got out to an early lead in game two scoring four runs in the first four innings. Dodge City took the lead with six runs in the bottom half of the fourth, but the Blue and White quickly tied the fifth and took a one run, 7-6 lead into the seventh inning. Dodge City scored four runs over the course of the seventh and eight for a three run lead.

Similar to the first game, the Beavers rallied in their final at bat with five runs in the ninth. Elerie Rivera started the rally with a double to drive in Escamilla and Kenneth Gonzalez. Johnson hit a triple to bring Khalir Wilson and Rivera home. A single by Ashton Roy scored Johnson to give Pratt a 12-10 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. The Pratt defense got the first two outs quickly. Dodge City countered with back to back hits and walk loaded the bases. A single cleared the bases and allowed Dodge City to steal the win in a walkoff.

Roy led the Blue and White at the plate batting two for four with two runs and two RBIs. Rivera hit two for five with two runs and two RBIs. Gage finished one for two with a home run and three RBIs. Trace Maddux ended the game two for five at the plate with two runs. Johnson batted two for five with three RBIs and a run.

The series moves to Stanion Field for a double header on April 8. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. with the second game following at 3:30 p.m.
