PCC softball splits double header with Garden City CC

Pratt Community College softball returned to Angood Field for the final time in the 2018 season for a double header against Garden City Community College. Late game scoring was the key in both games as Garden City used a multi-run fifth inning to take the lead in the first game. Game one goes to Garden City as Pratt falls 3-5. In game two, it was the Beavers who used multiple runs in the sixth inning to solidify their hold on the lead. PCC comes away with the game two win at 7-6 to split the double header.

The first game was tightly contested through the early innings. Garden City came out and took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Blue and White tied things up in the third, while a solo home run by Lyndsey Loomis in the fourth gave PCC a 2-1 lead. Garden City brought three runs home in the top of the fifth to take the lead. Pratt scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, but that was as close as they would get to reclaim the lead. Garden City's defense held strong as PCC falls 5-3 in game one.

At the plate, Loomis led the Beaver offense. Loomis batted two for three with a home run, a run, and an RBI. Taylor Schuller hit one for two with a run. Kelie Byers finished the game two for four at the plate. In the circle, Ariana Perales pitched five innings and had five strike outs.

In game two, Garden City got on the board in the top of the first inning, but the Blue and White tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on second and third, Loomis hit a single to short that brought in a run. Pratt added runs in the second and fifth before a four run inning in the sixth. With bases loaded, Byers tripled to right field to clear the bases. A single by Makenzie Anderson drove in Byers for the fourth run in the inning. Garden rallied in the seventh, but came up short. PCC takes the 7-6 win in game two.
