PCC baseball starts a four game series with Garden City CC

Pratt Community College baseball began a four game series against Garden City Community College. The Beavers hosted the first double header from Stanion Field. Game one saw Pratt and Garden City slug it out in a tightly contested matchup. A pair of Garden City runs in the sixth inning gave the Broncbusters the lead. The Blue and White got a run back in the seventh, but the rally fell short. PCC drops the first game 4-5. Game two was a continuation of the first until the middle innings. A big inning at the plate for Garden City in the fifth inning gave them the cushion they needed to hold on for the win. PCC loses the second game 7-18.

In game one, Garden City was the first to get on the board with a run in the second. Pratt answered with three runs in the second to take the lead. With runners at the corners, Kenneth Gonzalez singled to left field driving in Sean Johnson from third. The Blue and White then loaded the bases. Darrian Aldridge came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to left field bringing Ashton Roy home. Closing out the scoring in the inning was a single by Elerie Rivera scoring Gonzalez from third.

After the second the Pratt bats went cold. Garden City used the scoring drought to chip away at the lead with a run in the fourth inning followed by the tying run in the fifth. Two runs in the sixth gave Garden City the lead. Down to the final three outs, the Beavers rallied. Back to back singles by Johnson and Roy put runners on first and second. Gonzalez reached on an error to load the bases. With two outs Garden City threw a wild pitch that Johnson beat home to cut the lead to a run. A walk reloaded the bases for the Blue and White, but a ground ball hit to the second basemen and the force out at second dashed the hopes of the Beavers. PCC falls 4-5.

Roy led the offense for the Blue and White in game one. Roy hit two for three with a run. Johnson batted one for three with two runs. Gonzalez finished one for three with a run and an RBI.

On the mound, Dalton Huggins threw the complete seven innings. Huggins struck out six of the 35 batters he faced and gave up two walks.

The second game started out much like the first with Pratt and Garden City trading runs. Garden City scored in the first for the quick lead. The Blue and White scored a pair of runs in the third inning thanks to a Khalir Vazquez home run. Garden City tied the game in the top of the fourth only for PCC to retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

In the fifth inning, Garden City's bats came alive for a huge inning at the plate. Pratt answered with a solo home run by Trace Maddux and a two run home run by Roy in the bottom of the fifth, but the Beavers could not get the runs to come back. PCC loses game two 7-18.

Gonzalez finished game two batting two for three at the plate. Maddux finished one for four with a run and an RBI thanks to his solo home run. Roy hit one for three in the game with two RBIs and a run. Vazquez hit one for four with a team high three RBIs and a run.
