PCC softball splits road double header with Northwest Tech

After weather moved the double header from this past weekend, Pratt Community College softball and Northwest Kansas Technical College met in Dodge City, Kan. for a KJCCC matchup on April 23. The Beavers were plagued by an offensive drought in game one. Northwest Tech took advantage to secure the win. PCC falls 1-9 in the first game. The Pratt offense woke up in the second game and responded by claiming the lead from the start. Pratt combined for 18 hits in game two to run away with the win. PCC beats Northwest Tech 16-4 to split the double header.

The Blue and White could not get the bats going in game one. Northwest Tech took the lead with a run in the second and added to the lead with runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. Pratt managed to get a run in the sixth. With runners on the corners, Kelie Byers hit a ground ball single to third which brought Monica Courville home from third base. The Beaver offense ended there as Northwest Tech secured the win in game one.

Byers and Courville led the Pratt offense in game one. Byers hit one for three with an RBI. Courville batted one for two with a run. Marissa Jonas ended the game one for two at the plate. Michelle Castillo also went one for two at bat for the Blue and White.

Jonas sparked the offense for Pratt into a fire in game two. The Beavers took the lead in their first at bat. Byers scored on a passed ball to give PCC the lead. With runners on second and third, Lyndsey Loomis hit a ground ball to center field to bring home Taylor Schuller. Jonas flew out to right field to bring in a tagging Lexi Sanborn. The Blue and White led 3-0 after the first inning.

Pratt added to their lead in the fourth thanks to Jonas. Jonas came to bat with runners on the corners and drove in Loomis. Castillo batted into a fielder's choice bringing Sanborn home from third. After three innings PCC led 5-2.

The Beavers added five runs in the fourth inning followed by six runs in the fifth inning to take the run rule victory at 16-4 to split the double header with Northwest Tech.

Jonas powered the Blue and White offense in game two. She hit three for four at the plate with seven RBIs, two home runs and two runs. Makenzie Anderson also batted three for four with two runs. Loomis and Sanborn were perfect at the plate in game two. Loomis finished the game a perfect three for three with four runs and two RBIs. On top of throwing the complete game, Sanborn batted a perfect four for four with three runs and three RBIs.

PCC softball closes out the regular season with a road double header against Colby Community College on April 24. First pitch is at 2 p.m. with the second game starting around 4 p.m.
