PCC softball season ends in the Region VI tournament

Pratt Community College softball traveled to Garden City, Kan. to compete in the Region VI softball tournament. Beginning on April 27, the Beavers faced Butler Community College and Garden City Community College over the double elimination tournament. Pratt faced off against a hot hitting Butler team that used the long ball to score. PCC loses the first game to Butler 1-9. The Blue and White took an early lead in the second inning against Garden City CC. A big inning for Garden City in the fourth gave them the runs to secure the win. PCC falls 5-13 to Garden City.

The first game in the tournament saw Kelie Byers score the lone run for the Beavers. With runners on the corners, a wild pitch brought Byers home from third. Pratt used a three pitcher rotation against Butler with each pitcher throwing two innings each. Ariana Perales started on the stripe giving up three hits and three walks in the loss.

Pratt and Garden City battled in the early innings of the must win elimination game. Garden started the scoring in the first inning with a run. The Blue and White quickly countered to take the lead in the second with two runs. With runners on first and second Makenzie Anderson singled to left to drive in Taylor Schuller. Marisa Jonas singled to the pitcher to bring in Lyndsey Loomis from third to take a 2-1 lead.

Garden City reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the second, but Pratt battled back with runs in the third and fourth innings. Anderson hit a single to center to score Schuller and Loomis for a pair of runs in the third. Monica Courville grounded to first to bring home Jonas to cut the Garden City lead to three runs. PCC trailed Garden City 5-8. Garden City's big inning came in the bottom half of the fourth as they took the win. PCC softball's season comes to an end with a 5-13 loss to Garden City.

Anderson ended the Garden City game three for four at the plate with a team high three RBIs. Jonas batted two for three with a run and an RBI. Schuller hit a perfect two for two with two runs. Loomis finished the game one for two at bat with two runs.
