Baseball Starts Season With Back-to-Back Series Wins

The Beaver baseball team has opened their season with a 6-2 record after winning back-to-back four game series. Pratt opened their season with a four-game series win over Allen County 3-1. The Beavers won games one, three, and four. This past weekend, Pratt traveled to Fort Scott, KS to take on the Greyhounds of Fort Scott Community College. The Beavers won the series 3-1 with a win in game one, two, and four.

“We have gotten off to a good start and we are playing good clean baseball especially with a young group,” said Head Baseball Coach Todd Reller. “We faced two good opponents so starting off the season 6-2 and winning two series is huge for our group.”

Pratt has had success early with first-year pitchers and key position players. This week Xander Roberts was named KJCCC Pitcher of the Week. Curtis Anderson picked up his first win on the mound this past weekend with six innings pitched. Freshman Drew Bugner, Jaden Flores, and Tytin Goebel have all been asked to play key roles in the early part of the season. Bugner leads the team with 10 RBIs.

“It is a very inexperienced group which is scary for a coach, but they are doing a great job,” said Coach Reller. “Xander Roberts was awesome this weekend going 6 and 2/3 innings. Curtis Anderson another first-year student, did a great job this weekend. We have some freshmen contributing on the offensive side as well.”

The team will travel to Tonkawa, OK this coming Saturday, February 18 to face the Mavericks of Northern Oklahoma College. Both teams will then turn around and finish the series in Pratt on February 19. To finish out the month of February, the Beavers will travel to McPherson College to take on their JV team and then to Wilburton, OK for a four-game series against Eastern Oklahoma State College.

“This next series will be tough as we always match up with Tonkawa and they are a very good school who plays good baseball,” said Coach Reller. “Another good challenge for us going on the road on Saturday to take care of business and then come back home and do the same the following day.”
