Beaver eSports Team Prepared for Post Season Play

The Beaver eSports team has qualified for the Spring 2023 NJCAAe postseason play in both Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 4v4 and Call of Duty Warzone 2.0. The team finished their regular season back on Wednesday, March 29. The 4v4 team finished their season 1-6 overall with one win coming against Blinn College. The Warzone team finished 1-6 too, with their one win against Hutchinson Community College.

"I put my guys up against the highest level of competition this spring which is the reason our record looks the way it does," said Head eSports Coach Charles Keefer. "While the guys may not have been thrilled with our overall performance, they showed up week in and week out and did the right things to improve every single day. Our record does not define this team and I believe we are in the right spot at the right time to shock some people."

The 4v4 team enters the playoffs at the #8 seed and will face the University of South Carolina-Sumter for a third time. The first coming in a pre-season match and the second in the regular season. The Beavers lost in both previous matchups 3-0. The two teams are set to face off on Monday, April 10 at 4:30 pm.

"USC-Sumter is a tough opponent that also happens to be the defending national champions," said Coach Keefer. "We know what they do well, and they know what we do well. It is hard for any team to beat an opponent three times in a season. We must show up in the right mindset and forget about our past against this opponent. If we can do that, we will have a chance."

The Warzone team is preparing for their second straight playoff appearance this time as the #5 seed and will face the Hutch Blue Dragons. This season the Blue Dragons had two teams competing in the invitational division. The Beavers will face team two who they played once this season. The match was close as Pratt unfortunately lost 2-1. The match will take place on Thursday, April 13 at 6:00 pm.

"We have played Hutchinson at least three times this season in two different games. We are both familiar with what we do. However, this creates a bigger atmosphere when you can compete against an in-state opponent. People on campus and in the community recognize the name and understand the rivalry between schools," said Coach Keefer. "We competed in every single Warzone match this semester and I am confident with the right mindset we can advance to the next round."
