Beaver Esports Set for NJCAAE Playoffs

Beaver Esports Set for NJCAAE Playoffs

The Beaver Esports team has qualified for the NJCAAE playoffs starting on Monday, November 27. The season started back on October 9th and all three teams competing this semester Fortnite (No-Build), Fortnite (Build), and Overwatch 2 qualified for the playoffs.

"It is the first time during my tenure that every team competing in a particular semester has qulaified for the postseason," said Head Esports Coach Charles Keefer. "We have a lot to be proud of, but the job is not finished as we look to win the first postseason matches under my tenure."

The Fortnite (No-Build) team finished their regular season 5-3 and will be the ninth seed entering post-season. The team will face 24 seed Pensacola State College in the first round before facing one of the SUNY Jefferson teams upon advancement to the second round. The Fortnite (Build) team will be seeded tenth in the playoffs and face the seventh seed Louisburg College in the first round. The winner of that match will face the second seed Union College. The Beavers faced Louisburg earlier in the season and lost 2-0. Both teams consist of Christopher Whitaker and Samuel Kelly. The matches are set for November 27 and 28 at 5:00 PM.

"The Fortnite team has done well this semester and should be proud of what they accomplished during the regular season," said Coach Keefer. "We have been stronger in no-build, and I believe we could make a run through this tournament if we can maintain that success. The build mode has been more of a struggle for us, but in the last few weeks we have been improving and are ready to peak here in the post season."

The Overwatch 2 team has had a busy fall semester. Not only have they competed in the NJCAAE Contender Series, but competed in a preseason tournament at Highland Community College finishing seventh and are currently competing in the Wildcat League a league made up of community colleges around Kansas and one college in Nebraska. The playoffs for that league will take place in person at Kansas State on December 9.

The team consists of Deven Anderson, Kody Canfield, Carlos Pedroza Garcia, Jack Shaffer, and Jeremiah Goebel and will finish the regular season 3-3 with a 20 seed in postseason play. The team will open against the 13 seed University of South Carolina- Sumter in the opening round. The winner will advance to either Iowa Western or State Fair. The opening round is set for November 29 at 5:00 pm.

"The Overwatch 2 team has had an up and down season with a successful start to the semester at the Highland tournament and now qualifying for the NJCAAE postseason and potential the Wildcat League semi-finals," said Coach Keefer. "The team has gone through a roster change in the last month which has presented several challenges, but the team is starting to feel comfortable again with each other and in their skill sets. We are ready to take the next step and win a postseason match."
