Beaver Esports Caps Off A Strong Fall Season At Wildcat League Finals

The Pratt Community College Esports team traveled to Manhattan, Kan. on Saturday, December 9 for the Wildcat Leage Finals. The Wildcat League is a group of Kansas community colleges that compete in several different titles throughout the fall semester with the top four teams earning a sport at the finals on the campus of Kansas State University.

The Overwatch 2 team entered the finals as the third seed and played Higland Community College the two seed and won 2-0 in the semi-finals. The team then advanced to the finals to face the first seed Independence Pirates. Unfortunately, the team lost 3-0 to finish runner-up in the fall semester.

"I am so proud of this team and the resiliency they've shown through roster changes and of course several updates in the actual game," said head Esports coach Charles Keefer. "To end the semester with a second-place finish in the Wildcat League is a great accomplishment and a step in the right direction as we continue to grow our program."

Sophomore Christopher Whitaker won the Fortnite solo competition against five other players with 35 eliminations over three games. As a team, Whitaker and Samuel Kelly placed third in Fortnite squads with Highland taking first and second place.

"Chris brought home the first ever trophy under my tenure as coach. For that I am super proud of him and the dedication he has shown this past semester," said coach Keefer. "As a team we have had our ups and downs this first semester working through three map changes, but a third-place finish in the first semester of ever competing in Fortnite is more than I could have asked for. Both of these finishes put us in a place to continue to grow our Fortnite squads and bring in top level players."

The Esports team will be back in action starting in February.
