Esports Team Ready for Postseason

The Pratt Community College Esports team is set to begin their spring postseason on Wednesday, Apr. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The Overwatch 2 team consisting of Kody Canfield, Jack Shaffer, Jeremiah Goebel, Deven Anderson, and Carlos Pedroza-Garcia received the third seed in the NJCAAE Overwatch 2 open series playoffs. The team also received an opening round bye and will face Arkansas State University Three Rivers in the second round. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Apr. 20 at 5:30 p.m.

"This is the best seed a team has earned under my tenure as head coach. I am super proud of the team and how hard they have worked this spring," said head Esports coach Charles Keefer. "We have the potential to make a deep run in the tournament if we can play well and capitalize on this opportunity."

Both the Overwatch 2 and Fortnite teams will be traveling to Manhattan, Kan. on Friday, Apr. 19 for the Wildcat League finals taking place on the campus of Kansas State University on Saturday, Apr. 20. The Wildcat League is a league made up of several Kansas community colleges who compete throughout the fall, spring semesters, and meet up twice a year to crown champions in each game title offered for both semesters.

The Overwatch 2 team has earned for the second straight semester the number two seed in the tournament and will face Highland Community College in the opening round. The team finished runner-up last fall at the tournament and are looking to improve on that finish. The Fortnite team will play solos first against every other player at the tournament and will then team up as a squad (four players) and compete in a kill race against the other schools in attendance. Last semester, Chris Whitaker finished first in the solos competition and the team finished third.

"The Wildcat League is a great opportunity to form relationships and rivalries against other Kansas schools throughout the year. The league has grown over the past two years, and we are excited about more schools joining next fall," said coach Keefer. "We have had a lot of success in this league and look forward to another successful weekend in Manhattan."
