Pratt, Kan. - On Wednesday March 12, the Pratt Community College women's flag football team defeated Hesston College, a powerhouse in the NJCAA. The past two seasons, Hesston finished 2nd in the nation.
The game was highlighted by an impressive defensive effort by the Beavers. They were able to shutout their opponent. Hesston, who went 12-4 last season, have started the season slowly. They were 1-1 after a 25-6 loss to Graceland University on March 1, and a win by forfeit against Kansas Christian College, who was forced to cancel their season. This marks the first official win for the Beavers, who have started this season 0-2 after losses to Saint Mary University and Kansas Wesleyan. Last semester, the Beavers defeated the Larks in a scrimmage, but this was the first official in-season victory that Pratt has had over Hesston.
The Beavers were happy about the result. The effort was a great improvement on the defensive side of the ball. The confidence from this game should be able to carry the team forward as they make their way through their schedule. Assistant Coach Sade' Roberts, the defensive guru for the Beavers was very happy with the team's performance.
Pratt will play next on Saturday, March 15, against William Woods University in Fulton, MO. Their next home game will be March 31 as they play host to Kansas Wesleyan University's JV team. Head coach Abbi Munson is excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for her team.
