A historic day for PCC! The Flag Football program has officially won its first KJCCC championship! This is a big moment for 1st year head coach Abbi Munson. When asked about her team, she said, "I'm proud of the team's resilience this season. We started off slow but have been gaining momentum in the last half of the season. Claiming the conference championship title is just what we need to keep the fire going." She went on to emphasize how special it is to her to win the conference in her first year at the helm of the program.
The championship was clinched in a 7-0 victory against Hesston College. This was the second victory that Pratt has had over Hesston this semester and the third this year. In the two matchups this semester, Pratt has allowed a grand total of 0 points! The Beavers are led by their defense, which is the specialty of assistant coach Sade' Roberts. Coach Munson said, "It was a defensive battle today, big shout out to Defensive Coordinate Sade' Roberts for coaching a shutout game."
The Beaver's lone touchdown came on an exciting play. QB Brooklyn Delgado began running, chose to pitch the ball to RB Shamiya Singletary, who then scampered for 15 yards, while breaking 3 tackles, and scored!
The Defense was tested late when Hesston had chances to score late. With 1:30 left on the clock, Hesston was 15 yards from the endzone. After a sack by Shamiya Singletary and a combined 3 pass deflections by Kamryn King and Jahzara Silvera, their hopes of a comeback were over. The Beavers were able to kneel the ball with 39 seconds remaining to run out the clock.
This is the second sport to claim a conference championship for the Beavers this season, with the first being wrestling. This is an exciting moment for the program, which is expected to continue to improve in the coming years!
The final words from Coach Munson went out to those who support her program. "Thank you to our administration, faculty, staff, and boosters for believing in the program and helping the student athletes succeed on and off the field."
