Pratt outlasts Hutch in double-OT thriller

PRATT, Kan.- The Pratt-Hutchinson rivalry enveloped the air of the Beaver Dome on Saturday night, though the Beavers managed to find the final gasp. 

After a thrilling 20 minutes, the Beavers managed to find the winning edge in the ballgame's extra 10 minutes, pushing away from the Blue Dragons 94-91. 

Jamel Horton exploded yet again for a team-high 23 points, while shooting 90 percent from the free throw line (9-10). Horton also added five rebounds to go with his four assists. Deontae Davis sniped his way to 22 points, courtesy of his success beyond the arc (5-11). With 13 rebounds, Davis finished the night with his first double-double as a Beaver. Zool Kueth and Julian Eziukwu each finished with 11 points, while Harrison Eghan collected 12 rebounds along with eight points. 

Down 37-31 at the halftime break, the Beavers clawed back to tie the game at 48-48 following a Drew Honas three-pointer with just over 14-minutes minutes remaining the in the half. For nearly the next 10 minutes, neither team managed to hold a lead of more than three-points. Down 71-65 with just over four minutes left, the Beavers bolted on a 9-2 run, with Pratt leading 74-73 with 140 seconds to go. 

The Beavers held the basketball with 14 seconds remaining with the game tied 76-76. Horton's dirbble-drive attempt was denied, as Hutchinson's Majok Kuath blocked Pratt's opportunity to win the game in regulation. 

Following a 87-87 finish to the first overtime period, the Beavers clamped down on the defensive end. Hutchinson shot only 1-8 from the field in the second overtime, including 0-4 from beyond the arc, as the Beavers managed to create a 94-91 lead with eight seconds remaining. 

The Blue Dragons' Tyler Brown heaved a last-second three-pointer, but to no avail. 

Both men's and women's basketball will be back at the Beaver Dome on Wednesday, January 23. Tip-offs are scheduled for 5:30 and 7:30 PM.
