Pratt wins fourth in a row, beating Dodge City 64-56

PRATT, Kan.- Coach Flynn has certainly found a groove with his squad, as the Beavers grabbed yet another conference win on the road in Dodge City, winning 64-56.

Zool Kueth led the Beavers in scoring with 13 points, shooting 33 percent from the field (5-15). The Tennessee native also had four rebounds and three blocks. Jamel Horton and James Burns also finished in double-figures for Pratt, posting 11 and 10 points, respectively. Including tonight, Horton has finished with at least 10 points in 20 of 22 games this season, while Burns recorded double-figures in points for the first time since November 30.

Though Pratt wasn't overwhelmingly efficient from the field, shooting 32 percent (23-71), the Beavers impressed from the free throw line, connecting on 15 of 18 attempts (83 percent). Coach Flynn's team also outrebounded the Conquistadors 62-47, including 19-16 on the offensive side of the floor.

A tightly-contested first-half broke in favor of the Beavers, as Pratt managed to create some separation towards the end of the first 20 minutes, leading by as much as six with under 10 seconds remaining. The Beavers took a 35-30 lead into the halftime break.

Both teams continued to trade jabs as the second-half opened, however a Burns jump shot and subsequent bucket from Horton gave Pratt a 10-point lead with just over eight minutes left. Aided again by Burns and Horton, the Beavers extended the lead to a game-high 14 points with the Beavers up 56-42 with a little more than seven minutes left on the clock.

The Conquistadors stood tall on their home court, going on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to cut the Pratt lead to 56-51. Still, the Beavers clamped down on the defensive end in the closing minutes, forcing Dodge City to foul the rest of the way. The Beavers were five of six from the free throw line over the final 25 seconds, putting the game on ice.

Now 14-8 overall and 8-5 in KJCCC play, the Beavers will have the opportunity to gain a game on the second-place Colby Trojans (18-4, 10-3) at the Beaver Dome on Saturday, February 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 PM.
