Men's basketball rolls to win over Saints

PRATT, Kan.- After watching the women before them emerge victorious, men's basketball was not going to be one-upped. Crashing the boards and methodically shooting the basketball, the Beavers cruised to a 84-73 win over Seward County.

Zool Kueth led the Beavers with 24 points (9-20), though he wasn't the only Beaver to have a productive night offensively. Deontae Davis, Tommy Thomas and Julian Eziukkwu all saw their nights end in double-figures.

Davis shot 50 percent from the field (6-12) on the way to posting 19 points and seven rebounds. Shining on both ends of the floor, Thomas had his most impressive showing in KJCCC play, scoring 15 points to go with his six rebounds. For the second-consecutive game, Eziukwu managed a double-double, giving the Beavers 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Harrison Eghan came off of the bench to tie Eziukwu with a game-high 10 rebounds. Eghan also had nine points off of the bench.

Rebounds highlighted the Pratt effort in the 11-point win, as the Beavers not only grabbed 16 more boards than the Saints (40-24), but were superlative in the offensive rebounding category, winning the margin 13-4.

Coach Flynn and his team saw the tide turn in their favor early, jumping out to a 19-9 lead after the first seven minutes of the first-half. However, Seward County followed with a run of its own, outscoring Pratt 27-18 as the Beavers went into the locker room with a 37-36 lead.

The Beavers countered the Saints early in the second-half, managing to create a 53-40 lead with 13-minutes remaining. For the next 13 minutes, the Beavers never allowed the Saints to get within more than six points. Every Seward County attack was short-lived, as the Beavers saw their lead grow as extensive as 75-61 at the two-minute mark.

Now 16-9 and 10-6 in the KJCCC, the Beavers have already surpassed their 2018-19 win total with five regular seson games reminaing. When the boys travel to Hutchinson on Monday, the Beavers will be aiming to sweep the season series against the Blue Dragons following a 94-91 double-overtime win on January 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
