Men's basketball storms past Mavericks in 87-58 win

PRATT, Kan.- Much like the women before them, the Beaver men were less-than-stellar in the first-half. In spite of the slow start, Pratt flexed its muscles over the course of the second-half, routing the Mavericaks 87-58.

Jamel Horton was the Beavers' leading scorer with 26 points, connecting on nine of 17 attempts (53 percent). He was just as efficient from long range as well, making four of his eight attempts (50 percent). Horton's stat line included six rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks. Turning into quite the offensive threat, Tommy Thomas recorded 19 points on 50 percent shooting (7-14), including two of four from long range. Thomas also had seven rebounds.

Deontae Davis was also in double-figures for Pratt, as his night ended with 14 points as well as seven rebounds. Though Zool Kueth wasn't his usual scoring self, he did lead the Beavers with eight rebounds.

Coach Flynn's team was strong in just about every aspect of the game, shooting 45 percent from the field, (30-67), 40 percent from long range (10-25), and 81 percent from the free throw line (17-21). The Beavers also won the rebounding margin (43-36).

The final score doesn't make it obvious, but Pratt was given a stiff test in the first-half. Carrying only a 39-36 lead into the halftime break, the Beavers outscored the Mavericks 48-22 over the remaining 20 minutes.

Following Hutchinson's loss to Colby this evening, the Beavers now own sole possession of third place in the KJCCC West at 12-7, and are 18-10 overall. The men will be back for Sophomore Day on Wednesday at the Beaver Dome.
