Basketball draws common opponent in opening of Region VI Tournament

PRATT, Kan.- Following successful regular season finishes for Pratt basketball, the Beavers were rewarded with a pair of home games in the first round of the Region VI Tournament. And at the Beaver Dome, the Beavers will square off against a common opponent. Coach Ishee and Coach Flynn will be preparing for matchups against Neosho County Community College, teams that the Beavers have previously defeated.

Women's basketball completed the regular season 17-13 overall, and 11-10 in KJCCC play, finishing third in the West Division. One of those wins took place on January 4 at home against the Panthers, a game the Beavers won 86-77. Neosho County, placing fifth in the East Division, would eventually conclude its regular season with a 12-16 overall standing, and a 6-14 KJCCC record.

Though the Beavers triumph over Neosho County earlier this season was not considered a true conference game, the win signified the most points scored by Pratt against a conference opponent during the 2019-20 season. Janell Douvier led the Beavers with 21 points, making eight of her 14 field goal attempts, including a team-high seven rebounds. Dymond McElrath scored 19 points, aided by a season-high three makes from beyond the arc.

Coach Flynn was the mastermind behind one of the more suprising storylines in the conference during the 2019-20 season, as the Beavers won four more games compared to a year ago, including six more conference wins. Men's basketball also took down Neosho County, albeit in a narrow 80-77 overtime win that same January 4 evening. The two men to lead the Beavers in scoring during the year happened to be the primary contributors on offense that night, as Jamel Horton and Zool Kueth posted 25 and 23 points, respectively.

Horton was five of 11 from the field, but 13-18 at the free throw line. Horton also had one of his more successful games distributing the ball in the two team's previous encounter, as he was given credit for nine assists. Kueth was 8-15 shooting, half of which were three-point makes. His eight rebounds were the second-most he's grabbed in a conference game this season.

Both games are scheduled for Wednesday, February 26 at the Beaver Dome, as the tip-off for the women's game will take place at 6 PM, and the men will follow immediately after. Tickets for the game will cost $5 at the gate, granting admission for both games. No PCC passes will be accepted on Wednesday night, and Beaver students will be given free admission with the presentation of a student ID.
